I'm baaaack

Back on the wagon today, abs it feels awesome. I'm just so used to Paleo eating, that everything else seems unnatural...oh wait, it is. First day back to work after Spring Break, and it feels good to be back in routine.

Breakfast: eggs, salsa, strawberries, almond butter, black coffee

Lunch: spinach, turkey patty, salsa, nut mix

Dinner: turkey patty, asparagas, glass of wine...much needed. This car shopping business is stressing us out.

Sports car??? SUV???? Which way should we go??? Ahhhh!!! Do I say farewell to our family goals so we can have a little fun with a sports car. Or do we go with the SUV in case the stork comes early???? I think for now I'll leave it up to fate. It's more exciting that way. I think I'm gonna roll the dice on this one.

Workout: row 500m, 150 DU's, 50 burpees. I did it in 13:55. Not bad at all. I'm telling you people...Paleo does work and it gets easier. Especially now that the pressure is off with the challenge being over!

This is it!

WOD: Did Annie due to hurt back.

50-40-30-20-10
DU's
sit-ups

9:47 - Sub 10...love that!

Breakfast: eggs, grapes, AB
Lunch: chicken, almonds
Dinner: chicken, tea

I can't believe it! Tomorrow is picture day. This is bitter sweet. I want it to end but I don't all at the same time. The good news is, I will still be doing Paleo. I feel so good on Paleo. It was a well worth it challenge! I just have to end my blog (for tonight...no worries followers...I will continue to blog maybe not as often though) by saying...WELCOME SPRING BREAK! Time to go...I need to get in bed so I can be well rested for my 5AM workout tomorrow.

no words to describe

WOD: I chose to do 21-15-9, OHS, DL

I started with Rx'd weight

My back cramped up bad. Kept dropping weight, but back was still acting up. Jason said to call it a day and listen to my body because we don't want to hurt ourselves. Thank you Jason for making me stop because I would have kept going and probably severely hurt myself.

Here is where the back problem stemmed from:

On Friday we had cleans and pullups. On my cleans (which was a very heavy weight for me)on the way down I would get lazy and round my back. Jason is always on my case for this and now I see why. I injured my back from this and aggravated it when trying to do deads tonight. I was in pain over the weekend but felt like it would go away just like some of my other Crossfit aches. In the back of my mind I knew Jason was right and just continued to be lazy. I can assure you this will never happen again because it is too painful to have to go through again. I am very upset with myself! The only positive thing I can find about the situation is that now I know better and have learned my lesson. Sometimes it takes a major mistake to learn your lesson for good!

Breakfast: eggs, grapes, AB

Lunch: chicken, almonds

Dinner: When I tell you I was upset with my performance I meant it. When I get upset enough I don't eat. Usually Rob forces me to eat, but he was at class tonight so I sat around the house and was mopey. I did have a larabar and some tea.

Hopefully I can do tomorrow's WOD. I just want to scream! So disappointed! I let myself down and that is the worst person to let down...yourself. I'll get over it. I am in major need of Spring Break and time for myself. I've put myself on the back burner for too long! It's time to focus and pay attention!

catch up...here goes

So...I'll give you the bad news first:

I cheated! Ahhh!!!! I was so close to an almost perfect run and I screwed it up. Below is a list of the things I cheated with over a 2 day period. Gosh I feel so ashamed.

Jellybeans
Rice Crispie Treat
Vinegar
Cookie
Bread
Butter
Cheese dip (Well worth it since we have a dip cook off coming up. We got the recipe for this from a famous restaurant in downtown Disney! We are totally gonna kick ass at the cook-off. The dip is probably the cheat that was most worth it to me.)

So here is the good news. I was planning on having a huge week long cheat after the Paleo Challenge was over, and since I got my cheats out in Disney I no longer want to cheat even after the challenge. The only little cheat I plan on having once or twice after the challenge is cream in my coffee...but that is it! So this little experiment totally proves what I already thought was true. You should allow yourself a cheat or two each month just so you don't go crazy in the long run. Then the cheat will be out of your system and you can be back on track immediately afterward.

I am not going to bother mentioning all the Paleo food I ate this weekend, just know that besides what I ate in the cheat section, everything else stayed Paleo.

I have started fresh today and feel great! All cheats out of system...all Paleo systems are a go!

Breakfast: eggs, grapes, AB
Lunch: chicken
Dinner: grass fed beef, asparagus

WOD: I chose #1 AMRAP 15 minutes
5 jerks (98 pounds)
7 clapping pushups
100 M run

I got 6 rounds!
My jerks feel like they are getting so much better!

Disney

Took the day off to meet my sister, brother in law, and niece and nephew in Disney. Went to 8 AM class. A big thank you to the 8AM crew for letting me and spaz join in.

I did 103 pounds and had 6 missed reps. My chin ups were very sloppy! I better do a few more burpees to make up for it!

Breakfast: larabar

Lunch: on the road to Disney...chicken and lettuce, almonds

Snack: larabar on the road

Dinner: crappy buffet at fort wilderness. Salad ( with small amount of vinagerette) salmon, pretty paleo chili (no beans), chicken. Overall I did great staying Paleo considering what the choices at the buffet were. You should have seen some of those overweight unhealthy buffet people pack on the mac and cheese. I was sick to my stomach just watching them! Needless to say, buffets are not for Paleo people.

Extra protein

WOD: AMRAP 15 minutes

2 hspu
6 burpees
10 pullups

I feel amazingly strong today! Could be the extra protein!?!

8 rounds plus 6 burpees

Breakfast: eggs, banana

Lunch: chicken breast, grapes, almond butter

Extra snack: small piece of grilled fish left over from last night

Dinner: chicken, salsa, guac

Sweet tooth: tea with honey

I've been "toying" (no pun intended) with the idea of vexing certified to teach Crossfit Kids. After all, it is two of my favorite things combined...kids and crossfit. We'll see how I feel after I look at the requirements. I think it'd be an awesome cert to start my list off with, even if I don't get to teach Crossfit Kids right away. Who knows...one day I could open a gym strictly for Crossfit kids. A girl can dream can't she???

Wod: 2k row and max reps dead lift. Rx'd and I don't even remember the time I got...oh well. It's written in my journal.

Breakfast: eggs, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: meatball, califlower, avocado

Dinner: sea bass, broccoli, pistachios

Had 2 mints today. I just couldn't help it. I needed something in my mouth just to stay awake!!! Hope to get more sleep. Losing sleep over students in my class. I need to learn that I can't fix everything. Some of their problems are bigger than anything I have ever had to deal with in my life. I just want to be able to fix it!!

Quick blog

WOD: power snatch-I got up to 73 pounds clean. I snatched the 83 4 times, but the snatch became a press at the top so it doesn't count. It will come!

Breakfast: eggs, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: turkey, avocado

Dinner: meatball, califlower, pistachios

Stress snack: 2 squares of dark chocolate

Work has me really stressed and in unpleasant moods. Today I had a mom cry on my shoulder because she doesn't know how to let go! The story gets interesting trust me, just not enough time to tell it all. Just cut the cord already lady!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Sometimes I just want to scream and see what people would do.

5 is the new 6

As my friend Pink said "5 is the new 6" when Diane and I told her that we would be taking over the 5PM classes.

WOD: "WBS/DU Ladder"
10 minute running clock.
Start with 10 WBS + 10 DU's.
Add 10 reps each round.

I got 146. I was hoping to make it through round 4, but the wall balls KILLED me like the always do. I do have to say they felt a lot better than they have in the past though. I feel good about my progress with the wall balls.

Breakfast: eggs, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: meatball, squash, pistachios

Snack: 1/4 of Rob's Larabar

Dinner: meatball, squash, cauliflower

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Sunday...blah blah

Had hopes to go out running today, but the weather was so nasty by the time we got out of church that I just wasn't motivated.

Breakfast: Larabar, eggs, bacon

Lunch: pork

I've been having bad cravings for a tropical drink such as a banana daiquiri. So Rob and I made a Paleo daiquiri. It was by no means "good for you", but it got the job done. I have promised myself to stay strict for the remainder of the challenge. I guess there will be no more sweet Paleo "treats". I can make it for 2 more weeks!

Dinner: meatballs, squash

Saturday, March 20, 2010

Breakfast: larabar

Lunch: pork, guacamole, almonds (with honey drizzled on top...the sweets are getting the best of me)

Dinner: chicken wings

We are having a cook off tonight at our friend's house. I made Rob make me some Paleo wings, but I will sample a few of the no paleo wings so I can score them.

After Dinner: We have decided to go out after the cook off for some after dinner drinks. I will either have some wine or tequila.

Update: so we ran out of time and never took the Paleo wings with us, so I nibbled on some non paleo wings. Over all...not too bad. After the cook off we went out and have some peel and eat shrimp. My favorite!

Friday

WOD: 5K row - 24:42

Got under 25 minutes. That was my goal. I was pleased with that considering that I ow just like I run...very slow!

Breakfast: eggs, grapes, almond butter

Lunch: turkey, squash, tomato, almonds

Dinner: pork, salad, guacamole

After dinner: glass of wine and 2 dark chocolate squares.

Glad the week from hell is over...next week could be even worse though. We'll see, it all depends on 1 child!

Cravings!

WOD:
"Tabata Snatch"
Tabata 1-arm DB Power Snatch L/R
Rest 1-min
Tabata Box Jumps 20"/24"
Rest 1-min
Tabata 1-arm DB Power Snatch L/R
*Post lowest score of each round for total

I did 25 pounds, total score 24

Breakfast: eggs, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: meatloaf, squash, almonds (with cinnamon and coconut sprinkled on top...yum!)

Dinner: chicken, tea with honey

I am craving sweet things and each day my list of things I want to eat when the challenge is over gets bigger. The honey in my tea did just the trick and took the sting of my cravings away...for the moment anyway.

So I realized today (well I realized a long time ago, but I was in denial) that never ever in my life will I have a "thin" body. I'm working on being ok with that and loving my more "meaty"/muscular body. I was just not built to be thin. I shall learn to embrace it!

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Feel Strong!

WOD: Jerks! [Push, Split or Rack]
1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1

I got up to 123! Felt good. I actually was pressing 123. If I could get the jerk movement down I could probably move a lot more weight. Jason worked with me on the starting position and the weight seemed so much lighter. Special thanks to Liz who also helped me!

Brekafast: eggs, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: chicken, red pepper, avocado

Snack: Larabar (I need to kick the larabar habit. The closer the end of the challenge gets, the more larabars I am shoving in my face. It seems to satisfy my cravings for sweets)

Dinner: steak, squash, crushed tomatoes

No complaints today. A little tired from the time change, but all is well.

Diane recommended that I try those "wisp" (I think that is the name) disposable one time use toothbrushes to replace my use of gum at school. I bought some tonight and will try it. I think it may work! Thanks Diane!

Things are changing

Breakfast: skipped..slept in due to time change

Lunch: stuffed pepper

snack: so I've been craving a popsicle. I had to get creative so I froze some grapes and had frozen grapes. It was so yummy and cured my popsicle craving. I squashed the craving! Also had some pistachios for fat.

Dinner: Glass of wine, Rob's Paleo "manloaf" as he calls it. And asparagus.

Feeling a bit down...must be the Sunday blues.

Looking forward to Spring Break. I need a "staycation". Rob and I are gonna get away somewhere in town and just "be". I can't wait! I need to get away from things!

Komen 5k

What a great event!!! I felt much better running this one than I did at the Piper 5k. Sub 35 min. I hope to move that down to 30. But I still felt good while running. The shirt helped me to make sure I ran the whole thing. I felt like if I walked then no one would think Crossfit was a good program. With Crossfit's name on my shirt I felt the need to perform better.

Pre race: Lara bar
Post race: Lara bar ( I know , I know...too many Lara bars today.)

Lunch: salmon salad with lemon

Dinner: chicken and asparagus

Multiple Paleo cocktails. 3 to be exact!

By the way...

The other day, Rob said to me, "I hope you are blogging your cheats". And I said "What cheats?". And he said "the gum you had." So yes..I've had some gum, but only to make sure my breath is fresh. I talk to children all day in their face. I don't want them to gag. Any suggestions for a Paleo friendly breath mint? Bringing my toothbrush to work is out of the question because school bathrooms gross me out, and brushing my teeth in there would make me want to throw up!

Lunch: turkey, red peppers, pistachios

I got the little boy the help he needs for now. Now if only I could get his dad to answer my phone calls or at least call me back we'd be in business. What a coward that man is! I bet you I could back squat him! Haha!

WOD: deadlift...suckfest!!!! No PR! I will get over it...eventually. Maybe next time.

Breakfast: eggs, salsa, strawberries, almond butter

Snack: larabar (long time between breakfast and lunch)

Lunch: chicken, avocado

Dinner: chili, spinach

I NEED TO EAT MORE GREENS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having a rough day. I have this little boy who is acting out due to family issues. Today he told me he was going to shoot me and kill me. I pray for him. I'm very torn up about his situation and am having a hard time removing myself from it. I asked FMPD to come in and speak to my class about threats and about being a police officer. This little boy wants to be a police officer really bad. It's the only thing that motivates him. Should be a good time having John in the classroom. He's in for a good laugh!

30 KTE

98 pounds 18:(something)

Breakfast: eggs, onions, salsa, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: chicken, pistachios

Dinner: chili, spinach, square of dark chocolate and almond butter, tea. I'm feeling the sweets cravings!

I just found out today that district is going to come in and video tape some of my teaching to use as a demonstration for online trainings. Pretty cool huh?

FCAT starts tomorrow, which doesn't mean a whole lot for my kiddos except that we have a new schedule for the next 2 weeks...which means they will be in the classroom for longer periods of time because there is no movement on campus during the FCAT. Pray for me and my sanity please!

Make Up WOD

Got up...no breakfast we were in need of food so I went to church without breakfast.

Home from church had eggs, sausage, strawberries

Made up Friday's WOD:

mile 1 - 9:55 (not bad)

mile 2 - 10:22 (so frustrating)

mile 3 - 10:46

I feel so terrible about my running!!!! I went out for my runs today with a good attitude and was hoping for some decent times and it just gets so frustrating...no matter how hard I think I am trying I never seem to make running improvements. I feel like I am pushing myself hard, but maybe it is not hard enough. I just have the worst time with running. Oh well...tomorrow is a new day!

Dinner: crab legs, ribs...and some sort of vegetable. Haven't figured it out yet.

What I Learned

It took me most of the day to recover from yesterday's "bad fish". What I learned is that 5 bites of bad fish can lead to over 24 hours worth of pain! Imagine what the lifetime of crappy eating takes to get out of our system. If five bites of fish took over 24 hours...what does 24 years of crappy eating take? I am once again so glad to be eating Paleo!

Breakfast: none...stomach was still raw

Lunch: eggs, guacamole, sausage, 1/2 lara bar for carbs

Dinner: Rob ad I had a date night. I realized that I needed to give my stomach something else besides rotten fish to digest so I forced food down. After the first couple of bites it wasn't bad anymore. We took a walk downtown (see picture), had a glass of wine at the Elephant Bar, and dinner at Stonewood. I ordered:

Salad with no dressing just lemons on the side, and scallop and shrimp kabobs dry with no risotto.

Rob noticed that our waiter kept pointing at our table (we thought this was strange) and right before our dinner came out he came up to our table and said..."Alright...I gotta know. What diet are you on." So we explained the Paleo eating and he seemed very intrigued. He then felt the need to tell us his own story about how he lost 50 pounds on the Sylvester Stalone Diet. Basically he said it was eating dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner because that way you don't eat too much right before bed. Wat will they come up with next?!? I think Paleo is very normal, but maybe he thinks we are just as crazy as we think he is. Oh well! I thought it was cool that he was so interested in why we ordered what we did. I'd rather have people be up front with me and ask why I order things as opposed to talking about it and making assumptions.

Worst Day Ever!

Actually, I think it could have been worse.

It all started with a crazy day at school, and an hour and a half worth of (not so fun) parent phone calls, which in turn delayed my lunch.

Breakfast: eggs, salsa, sausage, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: salmon on top of a salad with lemon. Here is where the major problem starts...

So I ate lunch a little later than usual due to issues I was handling at work, then headed out to Crossfit to do my runs. I got through the first run at 9 minutes and 59 seconds. Halfway through my first run I felt sick to my stomach, but I attempted to buck up and I ran my second run which took me 11:58...yuck! Still felt really ill but was determined to finish the workout. I started to run my last run, but realized I wouldn't make it. I was bent over in pain when a man on a bicycle (possibly a bum?) asked me if I was ok and I did not want to speak to him so I just answered "yeah" and decided it was probably best if I walked back to crossfit and got home as quick as possible. The man continued to ride next to me and said "I saw you run back and forth about ten times, you have got to be tired." I just said yeah and picked up my walking pace a little...at this time I began to break out in a cold sweat. So I walked right back into crossfit and practically ran out the front door saying "I didn't finish my last run...gotta go I'm sick! I'll finish this weekend" I called Rob on my way home in hopes I would make it. I've never driven so fast. I think it took me 5 minutes to get home. I got home and spent some time in the bathroom. Rob was forcing some alka seltzer down my throat (which I was hoping would make me puke). As soon as I was mobile, I ran to the fridge to take out the lunch I did not finish and realized that the salmon was anything but fresh. Luckily it wasn't too far over the expiration date which saved me a lot of pain, but it was far enough over the expiration date to make me sick for a little while. The problem is I do not like to get sick in front of people...which is why I ran out of the door at crossfit, and I have a fear of throw up. The worst part is, since I have a fear of throw up I can hold it down pretty good...in fact I would rather swallow it then let it come out. I've only thrown up 2 times in my whole life. Once on my 21st birthday for obvious reasons, and once when I was 11 from a stomach virus which I remember clearly and intended to never let it happen again. So not only do I not like to throw up, but I also literally can't make myself throw up. Ready for my secret super power? I have no gag reflex. Don't believe me...ask Jim. He didn't either until I let him stick his fingers down my throat and nothing happened. Yes Jim...I did just announce that story on my blog! The one story that has gotten you in so much trouble with Amy. So needless to say after attempting to make myself throw up to feel better it didn't work. So now that I told you way too much information and probably inappropriate too, I will finish by saying I missed the "sex toy" party I was supposed to attend for my friend's bachelorette party. I skipped dinner and opted for tea instead. I will complete this WOD tomorrow as soon as my stomach stops feeling like it does.

You're sexy and hot

Those are the words that one of my 5 year old students said to a 5 year old girl in another class. Let's just say he got his ass handed to him. Totally unacceptable! And where do you think he heard it from?

WOD 5,5,5,5,5

88, 93, 98, 103,108

I failed on the 108. I almost had it! I got 4 reps and half of the 5th. Oh well! Maybe next time.

Breakfast: eggs, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: beef, salsa, walnuts

Dinner: chicken, salad

Dessert: dark chocolate covered almonds. This is a cheat and to be honest the chocolate could have been darker. Anything under 80% is like milk chocolate to me. I don't even enjoy it anymore.

Did I mention I love eating Paleo?!?

I have to get to dinner!!!

CFE: sprint 20 sec. Rest 2 min. X12

WOD: 3 power cleans and 5 burpees every minute on the minute for 10 minutes. I did 93 pounds with no fouls.

After crossfit I rushed out the door to meet my sister in law and our friends at dinner. I had such anxiety about making dinner on time that I drove all of 6PM crazy! Including Jason. Sorry...I'll be better tomorrow. And yes I did make it to dinner on time, just barely. Too much rushing around!

Breakfast: egg, sausage, spinach, salsa, strawberries, almond butter

Lunch: Paleo meatballs, squash, walnuts

Dinner: grilled chicken, mushrooms, peppers, onions, broccoli.

6+14=19

Haha! So I made a little addition mistake when I told Jason today that 6+14=19. What can I say? I teach Kindergarten, and we use pictures to help us add. But ask me anything about the cognitive development of a 5 year old and I can rattle quite a bit of information off.

WOD:
"Dead-Cat Bounce"
Four rounds for reps of
1 minute max reps WBS @ 14/20
1 minute max rope climb ascents @ 15-ft
Row 500-Meters
*Rest - Try to start each round exactly six minutes apart.

I got 60 WBS + 6 rope climbs (Very thrilled with my rope climbs! The WBS felt better today. Not as difficult as they usually are. Getting there!)

Ok so here is the deal about what I ate today...

I had a parent conference at 7:00 this morning, so I did not eat my breakfast at my usual time. Instead I ate my breakfast when my kiddos were at PE (10:00). I really liked not eating right away in the morning and felt more satisfied all day. I think I may try this again tomorrow. Is this a bad habit?

Late Breakfast: egg, sausage, strawberries, almond butter (I loved eating eggs instead of a smoothie! Nice change!)

Lunch: Squash, meatball, clean tomato sauce, plenty of walnuts

Dinner: eggs, sausage, salsa

Monday, March 1, 2010

Vegetables!

So today was my first day eating only 1 serving of fruit in the morning and vegetables for the rest of the day. The results were ok. I do feel the difference both positive and negative. It is kind of like the first week of Paleo where my body was going through withdraw. I went through somewhat of a sugar low today, but felt better when performing at the gym. I'll see how I feel next week when my body gets over the withdraw.

CFFM Strength WOD:
Back Squat 5, 5, 5, 5, 5
Set a PR! Reference 01.04.10 for 5-RM

My old PR was 143. Today my PR was 148!!! Veggies rock my strength!

*Assistance Strength Work: Handstand Holds, 4-minutes. I continue to improve in my freestanding handstands (without the wall). I think I finally got it down pat. I'm hoping to do 20 seconds (at a time) next time.

Breakfast: smoothie

snack: spinach, walnuts

Lunch: roast beef, lettuce, avocado

I was still hungry when I got home from school, probably from my lack of sugar that I normally get from my 2nd serving of fruit so I ate some more walnuts and that seemed to ease my hunger. I probably consumed too many fats today but I will eventually get a hold of this!

Dinner: meatballs and spinach

Tomorrow I am not going to have a smoothie for breakfast, I'm going to do the egg thing and see how I like it.

Saturday and Sunday Catch Up

Rob and I visited my parents on the other coast this weekend. We had a nice visit, but got made fun of for our "diet" as my parents and brother called it. They don't understand it...that's the problem. Nor do I think they want to try to understand it...which is the other problem. You can only close your eyes to food "problems" for so long. My mom is from the "weight watchers" generation so she thinks I am only doing this to lose weight. She says "You can eat anything as long as it is in moderation." So I try to explain the health benefits of eating Paleo but she just doesn't get it. In the end, it doesn't matter if they understand it or not because I understand it, like it, and feel great! The cravings got to me a little this weekend and I tried to squash them (as Jason says), I only caved in with 2 squares of dark chocolate. So that's not bad. This week I start eating fruit only in the morning and switch to greens for the remainder. Looking forward to seeing and feeling the effects of this. I know there are things I need to work on in my Paleo eating, and I know I am not perfect. Just putting that out there in case I did come across as if I am doing this Paleo thing perfectly.

Saturday:

Breakfast: Larabar (I know this is not considered breakfast but Rob and I were trying toge on the road)

Lunch: lettuce wrapped roast beef with tomato, strawberries, mac. nuts

Dinner: scallops, spinach, mushrooms 2 glasses of wine

Dessert: 2 squares of dark chocolate

Sunday:

Breakfast: egg, zucchini, peppers, mixed fruit

Lunch: late breakfast so no lunch. Just snacked on some dates and unsweetened coconut, mac. nuts. I know this was not a great choice, but easy access at the time while Rob and I prepare our meals for the week.

Dinner: Paleo meatballs and tomato sauce, squash, spinach

Field Trip

We had a field trip today! We went to Cypress Lake High School to see their performance of Alice in Wonderland the ballet. It was incredible! The kids were funny. They were just so excited to be outside of school on a bus.

False Alarm

"SP1-PP3-PJ5"
Press 1-1-1-1-1 (I did 93)
Push Press 3-3-3-3-3 (I did 103)
Push Jerk 5-5-5-5-5 (I did 98) got very tired by the time I reached this lift!

Had a nice chat with 6 PM crew tonight. I love 6 PM! They truly keep me strong. We decided we needed to just chat more often so I think we will be going out for coffee and tea (black of course no cream or sugar added!) after our Saturday workouts. We also decided to limit our fruit intake this last month of the challenge to 1 serving a day and get the rest of our carbs from vegetables.

Rob and I signed up for the Komen 5K...very exciting! A little nervous too!

So at school today, a 2nd grader pulled the fire alarm. I have created little OCD monsters because when the alarm was going off, they were all like "Mrs. Reed!!!! This wasn't planned!!!" They love their routine! The fire department had to come and it caused this whole big mess, not to mention 20 minutes of valuable teaching time that was lost! Ahh!!! When we finally got back to class we had to have a whole discussion about why we never touch the alarm unless we see a fire. My kids were all like "Yeah...it wastes our time." I'm constantly telling them about how disruptions waste our time and now they are starting to repeat it.

Another funny thing is that my kids have started reporting to me what they ate for lunch because they know I am a health fanatic. This one little girl came up to me after lunch today and said "Umm...Excuse me...Mrs. Reed...I just want you to know that I ate all my healthy stuff at lunch today. I did have ships (she pronounces her "ch" sound like an "sh" so for chips she says ships), but I only ate 2 of them." She was so proud of herself.

Edison Festival and Weekend Update

Wow! I actually missed a day of blogging! Let me catch everyone up.

Saturday:

I intended to do a 5K on my own just to monitor my progress, but started to run too soon after eating so my running was lacking. In the middle of my run I decided that it would be in my best interest to do a 15 minute run and then go digest some more and do another run. So after I digested I did 1 minute on 1 minute off for 1 mile. It took me 7 min and 34 seconds to do a mile. That's pretty fast for me! I call that my CFE on a whim.

Late breakfast: eggs, salsa, steak, onion, zuchinni

no lunch, but had a larabar for snack

Dinner: We had a tailgate party before the Edison 5K...chicken, peppers, mixed vegetables, avocado

I was hungry when we came home from the Festival so I munched on some more veggies...I figured I don't eat enough of them anyway so it couldn't hurt. Oh yeah..and I can't forget my paleo cocktail. I'm really liking the tequila.

The 5K was really fun to watch! I'm very proud of my crossfit friends who ran. We saw Leah, Paul, Sarah, Kate, Jason, J-Brod, Diane, Jane, Michelle, and I might be forgetting some of you. Rob got some great pictures! I'l have to have him post them. There is a really awesome one of Jane!

Then we watched the parade and I was so excited because one of my former students was on the Estero Fire Dept. Float with her Dad and mom and sister (who will be my student next year). It was very exciting! Her mom and dad saw me and we tried to get her attention, but it was too late she was in the front and I had already missed her. We also saw Jason Gunter and Laurie. Very exciting!

Sunday:

Breakfast: eggs, salsa, avocado, onion, red pepper, olives

snack: larabar

lunch: lettuce, turkey, apples, macadamia nuts.

Dinner: coconut shrimp, peppers, avocado

After church, Rob and I spent some time on Sanibel again (see picture). We've really been enjoying taking some time for ourselves. We packed our lunch and it was a fun little picnic. We also had a paleo cocktail. There was a wedding on the beach and it really made me miss mine. Then I started thinking, my wedding dress would probably be a little big on me now. I have a wedding I am going to be in on October 1st. I am very excited and am hoping that my dress will need to be taken in. It is always my goal to have my dresses take in. The good news is...my stomach did go down. Sarah might be right it could be from the dried fruit. I've stopped eating dried fruit so we will see if that helps the stomach issue. On another positive note, I put on a dress before church today that used to fit a little snug and now it is pretty loose. If I lose another five pounds, I could have an excuse to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. I did feel much better in my bathing suit today than I have in a long time. Life is good!

Panther Run

So today was the big Panther Run day. I was extremely proud of my kiddos! They all finished and only a few had a small amount of tears. I ran it with them...twice. I ran once with the boys and once with the girls. I ran at the back so that I could play clean up. I had to help kids who had fallen pick up their shoes and get them back on. It always amazes me how kindergartners can fall and for some reason their shoes come off every time! I also was grabbing the kids who were crying and holding their hand encouraging them to run or at least jog. All in all, it was a great event.

The good news is...one of my boys placed first. Very exciting for him! I was glad he won because he is one of my low socioeconomic kiddos who tries so hard to succeed in all that he does and literally has nothing at home. He deserves it...all the way! At the same time I had many students crying after the race because they did not "win". So I sat them down and spoke about my own experience with running and that it doesn't matter if I come in first or not. To me all that matters is that I finish and that I can honestly say I tried my best and didn't give up. I told them that I am not a very fast runner, nor very good at it but that I practice all the time and don't give up. Oe of our vocabulary words is "determined", so I said "What is the word that means you never give up?" and they all said in unison "Determined." I think they felt a little better after my talk because then one of my little girls (who is just so adorable) came up to me and put her hand on my back and she said (in her little mouse voice)"Mrs. Reed...I came in last. I was just about to console her and then she said "But don't worry about me...I'm ok with it just like you." So sweet that little pumpkin is.

So I did not get home until 5:50 tonight and had to skip crossfit. That's ok...I'll make up for it. I got in a little bit of a workout carrying around a little girl who had sprained her ankle. The wheelchair t school was already being used by a 5th grader who also sprained his ankle. This is not part of my job description, however there is not much teacher's won't do for the good of their students. I play nurse, mommy, counselor, referee, judge, you name it...I do it. But I love very second of it (on most days)!

Breakfast: Paleo Smoothie (I use egg white powder for protein)

Snack: Peach and walnuts (I am giving up the dried fruit to see if that fixes the belly)

Lunch: Roast Beef

Dinner: We are going to Rob's parents house to watch them eat a pizza (one of my weaknesses) while we enjoy steak and vegetables.

I am also going to throw in a few paleo cocktails. Hell! I might even throw in more than a few it was a long day of whining that I dealt with today.

Wall Balls are the devil!

WOD:
"Kelly"
5 rds for time of
Run 400-Meters
30 Box Jumps @ 20"/24"
30 WBS @ 14lbs/20lbs

This workout took me 41:06. The Wall Balls held me back big time. I think I might start throwing around the 20lb ball every day just to fix my wall ball problem...and it is a major problem! Oh well...you win some and you lose some. I will work on it. The beauty is that there is always room for improvement.

Breakfast: smoothie

Lunch: chili with spinach

Snack: apricot, walnut, date mix

Dinner: steak, onions, zucchini, squash

Sarah had commented on my blog to make sure I am adding in fat. Thank you Sarah for checking up on me. I really appreciate the help. I have been pretty good about making sure I am adding in fat, today I could tell I was lacking in fats by the way I felt, so I came home and ate some. I felt much better. I worry about eating too much fat though. The scale says I am losing weight, but I have noticed that while my hips are looking thinner...my belly is poking out. Could this be from eating too much fat? I also noticed that this happened when Rob and I did the zone for a couple of weeks. It definitely has something to do with this new way of eating. Does anyone have answers to this? To be honest Sarah I think this might be why it looks as if I have skimped on the fat...because I am scared of what is happening to my stomach.

I am looking forward to tomorrow. My school is doing the Panther Run. I opted to run with my students. It gives them motivation to participate and they get so excited about the fact that teachers actually know how to run. For some reason, 5 year old students think that their teachers live at school and don't do anything that is not done during the day while they are there. I will keep you posted on the run.

Milk was a bad choice WOD:
93 pounds...16:40

Breakfast: smoothie

Lunch: chili with spinach

Snack: apricot, walnut, date mix

Dinner: coconut shrimp

Had a training at school today. Teachers have a bad habit of bribing with candy. They had candy on the tables today...but I am proud to say I did not touch 1 piece. By the way I am very against giving kids candy as a prize. I do not keep candy in or around my classroom, and my students never ask for it because they know my opinion on that topic.

Totally loving life and learning to love who I am. Paleo has really made me a positive person. I also thank all the crossfitters for their constant support. It's really helped me so far!

Nice Day Off

CFE (with Diane) 1 min on 3 min off x 6. I feel like I did better on my running today. I decided to buckle down and get real serious about running. I want to improve so I need to push harder!

WOD: Kettlebell/Dumbbell Combinations
Snatch > Windmill > Turkish Get Up
3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3
I worked up to 30 pounds. Felt good there!

Got up at 8:00 (that's sleeping in for 3 extra hours for me!), made myself a nice breakfast: eggs with salsa and zucchini.

Had a dentist appointment (no cavities...yay! My record is all clean. I've never had a cavity...ever!) right across the street from Rob's work so I met him for lunch. We enjoyed a nice meal: Steamed shrimp and a side salad. The restaurant didn't have olive oil for dressing. I mean what kind of restaurant doesn't have olive oil?!? So I just squeezed lemon on top. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this salad with just lemon juice. I will definitely be having more of that! I got home and was a little shaky and then realized that I hadn't had any fats today so I grabbed some walnuts. Felt much better. It's amazing how your body tells you things if you listen to it.

Snack: larabar

Dinner: Chili. Jason told Rob to add spinach to his chili to add some greens and this was yummy! Thanks for the idea Jason!

Happy Valentine's Day!

What a wonderful day it was!

Breakfast: larabar, coffee In a rush because we were running off to church

Brunch: We went to the Sanibel Cafe for a Valentines Day brunch. It was not as good as we would have liked. If you "Paleoize" (haha I just invented a word) their food, it comes out bland. I had a shrimp omelet (just shrimp and eggs, I told them to hold the cheese) with a side of fruit. I wanted the cinnamon apples, but when I asked the waitress if there is sugar on the apples she looked at me like I had three heads and the expression on her face was something like this: "Duh lady! Who wants to eat apples without the sugar." Well for her information I did, and next time she gives me the "tude" (as I call it in my kindergarten classroom) I am going to smack it off of her face. Ok...sorry I'm back. My feisty side came out for a second.

We then walked around the farmers market on Sanibel and bought some organic Salsa (Runaway Bride...the guy who sells it has an interesting story behind the name). We also bought some lettuce and red peppers. It was so nice walking around there.

Rob then took me down to the Lighthouse Beach (see picture above) and we shared a glass of wine. How romantic! I know, I know we were breaking the rules about drinking on the beach, and if you know me well enough, then you know I hate breaking the rules! But I'm glad we did.

We then attempted to go on a sunset cruise but the cruise was canceled due to lack of people attending. This kind of spoiled the mood! So we went back to the house for dinner.

Dinner: Coconut shrimp. Yummy! We prepared this just like Diane prepares the chicken except we used almond flour instead of coconut flour because we didn't have any. It was very filling and very satisfying! Just like the real thing except cleaner! We also had some champagne.

What a wonderful day! What a wonderful husband I have! What a wonderful life!

My First 5K

Well...I did it! I finished my first official 5K. I did not go back and check my time because I don't want to know just how poorly I did considering I was one of the last to finish. That's ok though...I still ran it and got the first one under my belt. I am planning on doing plenty more and training harder. I think this could become an obsession for me...but a very good obsession none the less. My quads and bottom hurt so bad during the run. In fact it has taken me longer to do anything today just because of the pain. Even peeing takes twice the time because I have to coax myself down on the seat. When I got home from the run I took a 4 hour nap. I was exhausted!

Breakfast: 2 eggs, apple, almond butter

lunch: lobster tail, squash, and zucchini

diner: Ready for my story? So we had a cook off today which a group of our friends does once a month. Today's cook off was burgers. No big deal right? Wrong! Well...first I tried to tell Rob that I would just watch and not participate because I did not want all that non Paleo food in my body, but Rob gave me a hard time about it. So I decided to take small mouse bites of the burgers and a few of them I took off the buns on my mouse bite. I even convinced one of the participants to give me a Paleo burger (just the patty with tomato and bacon). He earned extra points on my score card because he catered to me. So, after beating myself up over my mouse bites the whole way home, I have finally convinced Rob to let me just watch the next time and bring my own Paleo food.

2 Paleo cocktails. I am really beginning to enjoy this tequila. That can only mean trouble!

So I am down 5 pounds (and I even weighed myself after I ate). This is good news! I have decided that I enjoy the way I feel so much while eating Paleo that I am going to continue eating this way long after the challenge is over.

Friday, February 12, 2010

"Glutes"
AMRAP in 15 minutes of
Weighted Walking Lunges, 100-ft @ 33/45
GHD Hip Extensions, 15 reps - hold one count at top of each rep

45 pounds - 5 rounds plus 10 lunges

Breakfast: Paleo smoothie

Snack: walnut, dates, dried peaches

Lunch: turkey with avocado and salsa

Dinner: Tuna steak, squash, and zucchini (Best dinner this week!)

Ok...I admit it. I came home after school and had a dinosaur dropping. I had to do it! You should have seen all the candy, chocolate, cookies, and cupcakes I had to throw away today. I can honestly say I did not take one bite. I didn't even have a lick of frosting. Just try to be a teacher around any holiday. I should have taken a picture of all the sweets. At least my cheat was a Paleo cheat.

I have noticed that when I am full these days it is a different kind of a full. It is a lovely satisfying feeling. Before Paleo when I would say I was full, it meant I was uncomfortable and I had a nasty feeling. I am so content when I eat Paleo. Feels good.

Bring on the temptation!

WOD:
5 rounds of:
3 Power Snatch
3 Snatch Pulls
3 Power Snatch

I got up to 68 pounds. I did not do more because I felt like the 68 was too sloppy to move up. No fouls though.

Breakfast: Paleo smoothie

Snack: walnut, dates, dried peaches

Lunch: beef with avocado and onions

Snack: Larabar

Dinner: taco salad

Tomorrow is our Valentine's Day party at school. I hear there is going to be cupcakes. Surprisingly enough, they don't appeal to me anymore. I love the challenge of being tempted. In fact it isn't really even a challenge at this point because none of that food appeals to me anymore so I don't even touch it. I think that eating those things is just done out of habit and I am well on my way to retraining my habit to eating only Paleo foods.

I put on a pair of jeans today that I haven't worn since my Freshman year of college. Don't ask me why I kept them. Bottom line is that they fit me even better than they did 7 years ago. The numbers on the scale don't seem to be moving much, but my body is definitely taking on a new form. I'm really enjoying it too!

Wash and Reload

Does anybody else feel like they are constantly washing dishes with all this Paleo cooking?

WOD - Scorched
AMRAP in 15 minutes of
Sprint 20 -40 -20 yards
Burpee Pull-Ups, 10 reps

I did 6 rounds (even) as compared to 4 rounds and 2 burpee pull-ups last time.

Breakfast: Paleo smoothie

Snack: walnut, dates, dried peaches
I ate lunch with a few of my students today who earned it. I actually eat my snack during their lunch time. They were very interested in what I was eating and I tried to explain Paleo in kindergarten terms. Then they kept asking me to analyze their lunch and tell them if it was healthy or not. Very cute! I may be able to turn my whole class Paleo. Now that would be an awesome goal.

Lunch: Turkey with salsa

Dinner: beef with avocado and onions

Still feeling healthy, however I was very tired today. All worn out!

100's Day

100's Day at school was a big success!

My day at Crossfit was also a big success! Don't you just love this positive attitude?!?

CFE: Row 3,000 Meters: Broken up with a 1 min rest at the 1,500 mark. Average split time for both 2:19...very consistent. Love how consistent I am getting. Now to work on the speed! Felt amazing after the row! In fact it took me about 10 minutes to finally stop talking about how amazing I felt. Sorry Diane and Jane.

WOD: Power Clean 3,3,3,3,3
I PR'd on this one at 108. Was feeling very tired at about 3rd set from the CFE.
Diane even said a "dirty" word tonight! Love when that happens. :)
6 PM is laying it on thick!

Assistance Strength: I actually did a handstand hold free standing without using the wall for 9 whole seconds!

Paleo food in my tummy = greatness!

Breakfast: Paleo smoothie
Snack: walnuts, dates, and dried peaches mix
Lunch: Chili
Dinner: Turkey, salsa, broccoli, walnuts

Finally!

I finally feel good! I felt satisfied with my eating today, and I felt good during my WOD...not sluggish. I finally can write a positive blog and stop being a Negative Nancy. The negative streak is over...hopefully.

WOD:
Run 1 - 1:44
Run 2 - 1:45
Wall Balls - 4:24
Run 3 - 1:43
Run 4 - 1:45

No fouls!!!! Yeah! I know my running times may seem slow to some, but for me this is an improvement...not to mention how consistent they were. I think this is due to the CFE's I've been doing. They are SLOWLY but surely improving my running.

Breakfast: Paleo smoothie
Snack: walnuts, dates, and dried peaches mix (yummy)
Lunch: Chili
Dinner: Steak, onions, salad

I finally figured out how to stomach my salad. Just add salsa duh!!!!

Gotta go get ready for bed...big day ahead of me. Tomorrow is the 100th day of school. This is big news people! Huge party planned including cheerio necklaces (100 cheerios to be exact). Don't be jealous!

I lost count!

Quick blog...on my way to bed.

Thanks Sara and Paul for hosting an awesome Super Bowl Party

breakfast: eggs, salsa, bacon, orange

lunch: chili

dinner: Well...I lost count. I know I had a few cucumbers, 2 shrimp, some salad Kary made (Fantastic!), some peppers, and tons of desserts! Dinosaur droppings, coconut cookies (Jane you rock!), A-Bomb's awesome squares. I think that about covers it. Let's just call it an all out Paleo cheat. Everything I ate was Paleo just too much in quantity. Oh yeah...and I can't forget my 1 and 1/4 vodka soda.

Saturday, February 6, 2010

On our way out so quick blog today...

breakfast: pork and almonds

Went for run - 5K

lunch: salad, salmon, almonds

snack: Larabar

dinner: burger (no bun), avocado, salsa, salad

cocktails: vodka and club soda with lime (x2)

Attempted to make the honey mustard dressing from recipe on Live Primal. Didn't like it. Will keep searching for one.

Gathered all sorts of recipes, going grocery shopping tomorrow and making items including homemade larabars, peach squares, and something called dinosaur droppings (disgusting name but they look awesome!).

100% Italian

Breakfast: Paleo Smoothie, Black Coffee

Snack: Apple with Almond Butter

Lunch: Carrots, pulled pork, almonds, water

Dinner: So we went to Cibo for dinner. Try bringing a girl who is 100% Italian and grew up eating nothing but pasta to an awesome Italian restaurant. I succeeded!!! Woohoo! I ordered a mixed fish dish and instead of pasta I had broccoli. That was tough, and now I feel great. However, I did have a few cocktails...half glass of wine and a dirty martini. Slowly getting used to the Paleo cocktail...Tequila.

Did not break out in a sweat today. I think my body is starting to get used to the change. I lost 3 pounds, but I think most of that is retained water.

Working on finding a new hobby since it can't be food anymore. Lucky Rob!

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Grouchy!

CFE: 12 minute time trial - I feel so sluggish these days!
WOD: SB Bench Press - highest = 118

Breakfast: Coffee (black), Paleo smoothie

Snack: Apple with Almond Butter

Lunch: Leftover Taco Salad (Ground Chicken, Romaine lettuce, Chopped organic onion, Guacamole Organic Salsa) and water.

Dinner: Ny strip, Sauteed onions, Olive oil, Cherry tomatoes,Raw broccoli
The steak was so good!

I feel like such a grouch today. I am feeling major withdraw today. I did nothing but bitch to Rob. Fire was spewing out of my mouth. Today I feel like I just don't even look forward to eating anymore. I did better with my greens today, but am feeling weak and tired. My running absolutely sucked! I know it will get better after the first week and will be for my greater good.

Tomorrow we have dinner plans with Rob's family. Going to this amazing Italian restaurant. Gonna be a challenge, but I am up for it. Knowing that I have to blog what I ate will keep me from falling off the wagon. I will let you know how it goes and what I ordered.

Finally...I had my first cheat today...non Paleo gum haha! Does gum even count as a cheat?

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Cry Baby!

Another successful day of making children cry! Haha! Just kidding...or am I?

Breakfast: Coffee (black), half an orange, 2 hard boiled eggs, almonds

Snack: Paleo smoothie (made with coconut milk).

Lunch: Pulled pork, half of an orange, water, almonds.

Dinner: Taco Salad (Ground Chicken, Romaine lettuce, Chopped organic onion, Guacamole
Organic Salsa). So yummy! I am taking the leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

I spoke with Jason tonight about how I've been sweating during the day. I've just been breaking out in a random sweat ever since this Paleo thing started. It's the craziest thing. He said it was normal and then went on to explain (in his fitness terms) exactly what was going on. It makes sense now. He also said I need some more carbs, so I am planning on adding a few more greens tomorrow. I have been slacking in the greens department. I'll get the balance right eventually.

Temptation

WOD - 5 rounds:
Run 400 M
Max rep pullups
Burpees

I did 32 pullups at 25:(something)
Not impressed with myself...some days are just like that. Need to push harder.

Breakfast: Coffee (black), half an orange, 2 hard boiled eggs, almonds

Snack: Paleo smoothie (made with coconut milk).

Lunch: Pulled pork, half of an orange, water, almonds.

Dinner: Pork and hot tea (black...no honey).

My food was boring today. Most of it was the same as yesterday. I can eat the same thing over and over. It doesn't bother me. I eat to survive these days. Eating is no longer for pleasure. That's fine with me as long as I get the results I want.

So I had a huge temptation today. A little girl in my class had a birthday party. The kids had cupcakes and ice cream. I was able to beat the temptation and I realized it wasn't the fact that I wanted the ice cream, what bothered me more was the fact that I felt like I couldn't have it. I surprised myself with my ability to stay on track no matter what the temptation was. Now I feel great about it and am that much closer to a healthier me.

Breakfast: Coffee (black), half an orange, 2 hard boiled eggs, almonds

Snack: Paleo smoothie (made with coconut milk). If I closed my eyes it tasted like a tropical drink...and I could pretend I was elsewhere. It really sucked when I had to open my eyes and see 19 kindergarten kids staring at me. Talk about birth control. Ha!

Lunch: Pulled pork, half of an orange, water, almonds. I drank so much water today! Teachers get in bad habits of not drinking enough water because we can't just get up and go to the bathroom whenever we want, we have to find someone to watch our students. My co-workers are going to hate me. I'll be knocking on their doors every time I need to pee!

Dinner: Turkey patty with avocado and salsa on top (Thank you Kate for the salsa advice! Salsa and avocado are the new cheese for me). Rob also made salad. It was just lettuce with olive oil on top. He would laugh at me every time I took a bite. I just can not get used to salad without dressing yet. He attempted to force me to eat it, but realized it was a losing battle (just like every other battle with me).

Ready...Set...Paleo!

After a weekend of eating foods that probably should have never been "invented", I feel disgusting! I am very ready for the Paleo challenge to start, and even more ready for a healthier me.
